Spending 1 day Exploring the Center of Tirana: Itinerary

Here’s an example of how I would spend a 1-day itinerary for Tirana. It’s perfect for tourists who want to explore the city on foot, and have a casual day full of food and coffee. This itinerary is suitable for any weekday, except Mondays and national holidays.

Important Note: I highly recommend having cash on hand for any and all of the below. Some places will take card, but card machines may not work on occasion.

A perfect Cappuccino at Mulliri to start the day!

7:00 AM – Start your day at Mulliri Coffee, a popular local cafĂ© chain. Try their signature espresso (90 LEK) or a cappuccino (150 LEK). If you’re feeling hungry, grab a croissant (100 LEK) or a fresh pastry (120 LEK). Don’t worry, you’ll be going to 2 Mulliri’s today.

8:00 AM – As you leave Mulliri Coffee, keep an eye out for a nearby byrek place. Byrek is a traditional Albanian pastry filled with meat, cheese, or spinach. You can find these delicious treats all over the city. You may have to ask/show pictures to the shopowner to find out what’s inside each byrek, or you can just order a mystery one and hope for the best! (I personally love the Feta filled Byrek.) Make sure to have some small change on hand, as a byrek usually costs around 50-100 LEK.

9:00 AM – Before the crowds arrive, head to the National Historical Museum and Skanderbeg Square. The museum offers a fascinating look into Albania’s rich history, from ancient times to the present day. Admission is 400-500 LEK for adults. After exploring the museum, take a stroll around Skanderbeg Square, the city’s main plaza, and admire the statue of Albania’s national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg.

12:30 PM – For lunch, make your way towards the trendy Blloku area. On your way, stop at Restorant “Tradita Shqiptare”to sample some traditional Albanian dishes. Try the Tave Dheu (baked lamb with yogurt sauce) or one of their delicious meat dishes. Prices range from 500-1000 LEK.

2:00 PM – After lunch, head to the upscale Mulliri Gourmet for a relaxing afternoon. This chic botanical style cafĂ© offers a wide selection of gourmet coffees, teas, and light bites. (Similar to your first coffee of the day, but with upscale options. (Such as Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee.) Sit back, enjoy your drink, and watch the world go by. Prices range from 200-500 LEK.

6:00 PM – For dinner, treat yourself to a meal at Otium, a stylish restaurant known for its well-priced, fancy dishes. Start with the beef tartare or other appetizers. For your main course, try the duck breast or the seafood risotto.

8:00 PM – After a delightful dinner, take a leisurely stroll back to your accommodation, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of Tirana’s streets at night.

This itinerary covers some of Tirana’s must-see attractions and offers a taste of the city’s culinary delights. Remember to wear comfortable shoes, as you’ll be doing quite a bit of walking. Enjoy your day in Tirana!
